Hello CopenhagenDK!

I've reported all the spam accounts we got today as bots to LJ. Let's hope that works.

Btw, I hope it's okay I did this, mods? ^_^

I am moving to Copenhagen next week, and have a place to stay for the first week, but need to find my own apartment after that. I'm moving with my partner and also a friend of ours, and we all want to share.

We're having real trouble finding anywhere - we've found a few web-sites (http://www.boligportal.dk/, www.dba.dk, http://www.boligmangel.dk/bolig-fremleje.aspx) advertising flats, but if anyone knows anywhere else I could look, I'd be very grateful. I'm ideally looking for a 3-room place (2 bedroom), but will consider house-sharing etc.

short term cell phone [13 Jan 2011|02:42pm]

I will be travelling to Copenhagen next week (Tuesday). My Canadian cell phone will cost a baby fortune to use. What is the cheapest I can get a cell phone for in Copenhagen? I will only be there for 2 weeks and probably won't go back for several years.

My Canadian provider will charge $2/minute if I don't get a plan and $25 for 15 minutes, $50 for 40 minutes, or $75 for 70 minutes. o_0

There has to be something cheaper available in Copenhagen.

Any suggestions please? Links? Yes, I can read Danish, I'm just too rushed to write correctly in Danish right now.

My phone has a SIM card, but it is locked, so I can't just buy a SIM card and use a Danish provider.

My apologies if you see this twice.

Привет всем!

Собираюсь посетить Копенгаген.

Посоветуйте, пожалуйста оптимальный вариант мест, где можно покормить группу коллег в течение двух недель?

С какой валютой лучше ехать - евро или кронами?

Заранее спасибо!

FREE Furniture [16 Aug 2009|03:27pm]

I've been listing these online and all the responses I've had are scams, so now I am giving away my furniture that I bought last November, which is in good condition. The only reason I am giving this away is because I'm moving out of the country and have to get rid of it.

If you are interested in it please e-mail me at jic@dis.dk or send me a message on LJ. We can arrange for a time for you to pick it up from my apartment. Because of my work/moving schedule the best times to pick it up would be this upcoming Thursday, Friday, Saturday or the following Monday, but we can work out alternate times if necessary.

Descriptions and picturesCollapse )

These are all free and I really need to get rid of them. All you have to provide is a method to transport them back to your place.

"Modepalaet"? [16 Aug 2009|12:52am]

I have not been to Copenhagen (though I will be there in November/December), but my grandmother and great-aunt lived there after WW2 before they came to Canada, and I'm trying to locate the place where they worked while living in Copenhagen. And since I'm in the UK right now, and my parents are out of town back home and hence unable to visit my grandmother and great-aunt to ask for me, I'm asking you.

They worked at a fashion house called "Modepalaet" (though I know the spelling there is wrong). I remember I found the company online several years ago, and that they were still in operation at that time, but I don't have the website anymore and none of the spellings I've tried seem to be coming up with anything. But they were quite popular in the 1940s, and the website I found for them several years ago did mention how they had been around that long, so I know I found the right website. But now I can't even find a whisper of them online. So I know I must be missing something in the spelling.

So whether or not they still exist, if someone here knows the company I'm talking about and could give me the proper spelling (and, if they are still around and you know where in Copenhagen, do tell!), that would be very helpful. Thanks!

Tips??? [02 Jun 2009|09:16pm]

I was recently at an Italian restaurant in Copenhagen and I didn't leave a tip and the waiter made some remark about it. But I always heard that tips were not expected in Denmark and I thought they were included in the price. So what's the deal? Was it because we were at a tourist location (across from Jorck's Passage, where all those restaurants are)? Maybe this guy is used to getting tips from tourists who don't know better, or he was trying to take advantage of us because he thought we were tourists?

Dictionary [25 Apr 2009|01:06pm]

[ mood | high ]

Can someone recommend me a large English-Danish, Danish-English dictionary? I have a little yellow Langenschedit which is really nice, but too small. I'd like one that goes both ways and shows the Danish pronunciations -- which is hard to find in Denmark... so I guess I'd have to buy something online.

Pilot Dr. Grip pen [09 Apr 2009|11:46am]

Kære Alle,

Jeg vil gerne stille et spørgsmål. Hvor i København kan jeg finde en Pilot Dr. Grip pen(ikke kinesiske)? Denne pen er det bedste for pennen spinding (pen spinning). Undskylder for min danske sprog.

Dear All,
Would someone kindly advise where in Copenhagen I can find a Pilot Dr. Grip pen (not Chinese crafted)? That sort of pen is the best option for pen spinning.

[10 Nov 2008|10:57am]

Hello! I am in a desperate search for an answer here and I figure you fine people could help me out. I adore Copenhagen and have wanted to for a quite a while. I finally managed to make it the other week as I am backpacking through Europe. I found this shirt that said "Norrebro Gun-Free Zone" at a store on Norrebrogade. I really really wanted it but as soon as I walked in I was informed that the girl who made then was gone for the weekend. I have decided at the end of my travels to make a detour in Copenhagen again at the beginning of December.

So my real question is:

Does anyone know the name of this store? I believe it started with a "Mc" and it had a tank on it's sign.

Anyone have it phone number?

Looking for an apartment [02 Nov 2008|04:31pm]

I'm looking for an apartment no more than 6km from the center of Copenhagen. I might get one by myself or with a friend. I'm willing to pay up to 4000 a month by myself or 7000 with my friend. Anyone know of anything?

Now what? [25 Sep 2008|12:32pm]

So, I'm done as Master of Science, and don't feel like going home. I like Copenhagen and I'll try to stay here, at least for a while. This also means that I will have to move from my dorm. And now I have time to involve in something instead of my studies.

The problem is, that I never really got know any danish people during 3 years here. Well, I have one danish friend, but it's also complicated because of emotions involved. I think it's due to unlucky circumstances at my university and my dorm.

I've bitched enough about this previously, but now I'm looking for some practical solutions which could be used to change this situation, since I'm about to stay here. I would be glad to hear yours. I speak some danish, btw.

Here's what I have thought about:
  • move to a collective (bofællesskab). The problem is, it's hard to find the right one. I've been looking on dba.dk since May, but they either want a student (which I'm not anymore), a girl, or the rent is too high, or it's too far away, and so on... Being a foreigner doesn't help here either. I guess I'll have to settle for a regular room.
  • join some sports club. The thing is, I'm not so much into sports :) Maybe I should start though... Some yoga would do.
  • join some society. I was thinking about some voluntary work.
  • get some more social job. Argh, but my field is Web applications...
  • start studying again, probably something completely different. Well, maybe, but I don't feel like it right now, I would rather take some break. Learning something just for my own sake would be nice, like playing drums :) But it usually costs a lot.
  • ..hmm???

Dentist [17 Sep 2008|12:04pm]

New to CPH [01 Sep 2008|10:50am]

Hello everyone!

I am new to Denmark and will be living here for about 5 months. To be exactly in Lyngby, close to Copenhagen.

Right now I am looking for a second-hand (or third, or 5th or whatever ;-)) bike in Copenhagen or Lyngby or anywhere else where I can get by Metro! If you sell one or if you know where I can have a look, please contact me!

I'd also be grateful for any other tips you can give me. Where to go, where not to go, what do to, who to meet and so on.
